Over a three-day weekend, Black creatives gathered in Atlanta, GA, to network and celebrate culture at REVOLT World. Regardless of a person’s professional background, they were offered multiple opportunities to advance. A career fair happened September 20 – 22, which allowed individuals to meet with industry professionals. On Sunday, attendees pitched their businesses at Grow, Scale, and Elevate Black Entrepreneurs Pitch Competition and took professional headshots. There was a selection of different activities. However, media and politics garnered high crowd participation.
After being asked what sparked the idea of REVOLT World, REVOLT Manager of Marketing and Audience Development Corvaya Jeffries said, “We wanted to create a space where [Black creatives] can do it all, live it all, and dream it all. [REVOLT] is a one-stop shop for everything that they need to be fueled to create the future they see for themselves.”
REVOLT has existed for 10+ years and empowered media brands to engage larger global audiences. The organization has nationally delivered multiple forms of digital programming in over 80 million homes. When asked how long it took to execute a project like REVOLT World, Jeffries casually replied, “I don’t like to put a time on that. You [must] remember the people behind REVOLT World have years and years of experience. It almost feels like REVOLT World has been in the making before our time.”
On a Sunday afternoon, people experienced delicious food and beverages from Black-owned vendors. DJ Era kicked off The Block Party with some of the latest hits as attendees continued to explore. For those who missed church, Sunday Service was initiated by Pastor Mike, Jr. Attendees were well entertained before the political talk session, A Parking Lot Pimpin’ Special hosted by Lynae Vanee guest featuring US Representative Jasmine Crockett.
Once the noise settled down, the political talks started at 2:15 pm EST. There was high anticipation from many conversations heard throughout the afternoon. The time finally presented itself for political laundry to be aired out.
During the political talk session, US Representative Jasmine Crockett advocated for women’s rights. The conversation between Crockett and the social media influencer Lynae Vanee, was geared toward encouraging people to vote while informing them of societal changes. When asked about her thoughts on Roe V. Wade, Crockett stated, “Are we going to codify women’s rights when it relates to abortion access? Probably not.” She also mentioned that she understood that statement would ruffle a few feathers. “A lot of times it is about doctors not listening to us. Having a VP that looks like us is about putting people into position to effectuate change,” Crockett explained.
REVOLT World was a unique experience for all who attended. No future events were yet announced. All updates can be retrieved from the REVOLT website or mobile application. As Corvaya Jeffries emphasized after being asked about upcoming events, “We want REVOLT World to be back, and we want it to be bigger and better!”
